Ólafur þakkaði konungi þann sóma er hann bauð honum en kvaðst þó gjarna vilja fara til Íslands ef það væri eigi að móti konungs vilja.
Olaf thanked (the) king (for) that honor which he bade him but stated-for-himself yet (he) willingly wishes (to) go to Iceland if that were not against (the) king's desire.
Þá svarar konungur: "Eigi skal þetta gera óvinveitt við þig Ólafur.
Then (the) king answers: "This will not prevent you un-agreeably, Olaf. (Z. gøra 13 - g. við e-u, to prevent)
Fara skaltu í sumar út til Íslands því að eg sé að hugir þínir standa til þess mjög.
You shall travel in (the) summer away to Iceland because I see that your feelings tend greatly towards this. (Z. standa 15 - s. til e-s, to tend towards)
En öngva önn né starf skaltu hafa fyrir um búnað þinn.
But neither work nor toil presses will you have before concerning your preparations.
Skal eg það annast."
I shall take-care-of that."
Eftir þetta skilja þeir talið.
After this they broke off their talk.
Haraldur konungur lætur fram setja skip um vorið.
King Harald causes the ship to be launched in the spring.
Það var knörr.
It was a merchant-ship.
Það skip var bæði mikið og gott.
That ship was both large and fine.
Það skip lætur konungur ferma með viði og búa með öllum reiða.
(The) king has that ship loaded with lumber and made-ready with all rigging.
Og er skipið var búið lætur konungur kalla á Ólaf og mælti: "Þetta skip skaltu eignast Ólafur.
And when the ship was ready (the) king causes Olaf to be called to (him) and spoke: "This you shall be declared-to-be-your-property, Olaf.
Vil eg eigi að þú siglir af Noregi þetta sumar svo að þú sért annarra farþegi."
I don't want that you sail from Norway this summer so that you are another passenger."
Ólafur þakkaði konungi með fögrum orðum sína stórmennsku.
Olaf thanked (the) king with fine words for his munificence.
Eftir það býr Ólafur ferð sína.
After that Olaf makes-ready-for his journey.
Og er hann er búinn og byr gefur þá siglir Ólafur á haf og skiljast þeir Haraldur konungur með hinum mesta kærleik.
And when he is ready and gets a fair-wind, then Olaf sails to sea and they, (Olaf and) King Harald, are separated with the most love.
Ólafi byrjaði vel um sumarið.
Olaf got a fair wind during the summer.
Hann kom skipi sínu í Hrútafjörð á Borðeyri.
He brought his ship into Hrut's-fiord at Bordeyr.
Skipkoma spyrst brátt og svo það hver stýrimaður er.
(The) ship-arrival was soon reported and so that who (the) captain is.
Höskuldur spyr útkomu Ólafs sonar síns og verður feginn mjög og ríður þegar norður til Hrútafjarðar með nokkura menn.
Hoskuld is-informed-of his son Olaf's arrival-in-Iceland and becomes very happy and rides at-once north to Hrut's-fiord with several men.
Verður þar fagnafundur með þeim feðgum.
There-was there a joyful-meeting with them, father and son.
Bauð Höskuldur Ólafi til sín.
Hoskuld invited Olaf. (Z. bjóða 3 - to bid, invite (b. e-m til sín)
Hann kvaðst það þiggja mundu.
He stated-for-himself (he) would accept that.
Ólafur setur upp skip sitt en fé hans er norðan flutt.
Olaf draws his ship ashore, but his property is from-the-north conveyed.
En er það er sýslað ríður Ólafur norðan við tólfta mann og heim á Höskuldsstaði.
And when that is done, Olaf rides from-the-north as a party of 12 men and home to Hoskuld's-place.
Höskuldur fagnar blíðlega syni sínum.
Hoskuld welcomes with kindness his son.
Bræður hans taka og með blíðu við honum og allir frændur hans.
His brothers also receive him agreeably and all his relatives.
Þó var flest um með þeim Bárði.
Yet (the welcome) was more (agreeable) from the Bardis.
Ólafur varð frægur af ferð þessi.
Olaf became famous from this journey.
Þá var og kunnigt gert kynferði Ólafs, að hann var dótturson Mýrkjartans Írakonungs.
Then (it) was also made known Olaf's kindred, that he was the Irish-king Myrkartan's grandson.
Spyrst þetta um allt land og þar með virðing sú er ríkir menn höfðu á hann lagt, þeir er hann hafði heim sótt.
This was-reported over all (the) land and there with such honor which powerful men had placed on him, they which had come to see him. (Z. skja 3 - s. e-n heim, to come to see one, visit one in his home)
Ólafur hafði og mikið fé út haft og er nú um veturinn með föður sínum.
Olaf had also much wealth kept out and is now for the winter with his father.
