Þórólfur svarar á þá leið: "Ekki mun eg dyljast við jartegnir þessar.

Thorolf answers in this way: "I will not refuse to acknowledge these tokens.

 

Mun eg að vísu taka við þessum manni að orðsending hennar.

I will certainly welcome this man at her message.

 

Þykir mér Vigdísi þetta mál drengilega hafa farið.

It seems to me Vigdis has done this brave action.

 

Er það mikill harmur er þvílík kona skal hafa svo óskörulegt gjaforð.

That is much grief that (þvílík?) woman has so (óskörulegt?  bravely?) bequest (?).

 

Skaltu Ásgautur dveljast hér þvílíka hríð sem þér líkar."

Asgaut should stay here (þvílíka?) a while as you please.

 

Ásgautur kvaðst ekki lengi þar mundu dveljast.

Asgaut stated-himself (he) would not stay there long.

 

Þórólfur tekur nú við nafna sínum og gerist hann hans fylgdarmaður en þeir Ásgautur skiljast góðir vinir og fer Ásgautur heimleiðis.

Thorolf now receives his female-namesake and he becomes his attendant and/but they, Asgaut and Thorolf, separate good friends and Asguat goes homewards.

 

Nú er að segja frá Ingjaldi að hann snýr heim á Goddastaði þá er þeir Þórólfur höfðu skilist.

Now (it) is to tell (of) Ingjald that he turns home to Goddastead when they, Thorolf and Asgaut had parted.    (Z. segja 5 – s. frá e-u, to tell, relate)

 

Þar voru þá komnir menn af næstum bæjum að orðsending Vigdísar.

Then men had (lit. "were") come from (the) nearest farms there at Vigdis's message.

 

Voru þar eigi færri karlar fyrir en tuttugu.

(There) were not fewer than twenty men present there.

En er þeir Ingjaldur koma á bæinn þá kallar hann Þórð til sín og mælti við hann: "Ódrengilega hefir þér farið til vor Þórður," segir hann, "því að vér höfum það fyrir satt að þú hafir manninum á brott skotið."

When they, Ingjald and others, were (i.e., had) come to the farm then he calls Thord to himself and speaks with him: "Un-bravely have you behaved to us, Thord," he says, "because we had that for true that you have (shot, as in "whisked"?) the man away.

 

Þórður kvað hann eigi satt hafa á höndum sér um þetta mál.

Thord stated he not true has hands for himself concerning this case.  (meaning that he doesn't have a hand in this?)

 

Kemur nú upp öll þeirra ráðagerð, Ingjalds og Þórðar.

All their, Ingjald's and Thord's, plan now became known now.

 

Vill Ingjaldur nú hafa fé sitt það er hann hafði fengið Þórði í hendur.

Ingjald wants now (to) have his money that which he had given (i.e., put) in Thord's hands.

 

Vigdís var þá nær stödd tali þeirra og segir þeim farið hafa sem maklegt

var, biður Þórð ekki halda á fé þessu "því að þú Þórður," segir hún, "hefir

þessa fjár ódrengilega aflað."

Vigdis was then standing near their conversation and tells them (…), asks Thord not to hold (on to) this money "because you, Thord," she says, "have un-braveley earned this money.

 

Þórður kvað hana þessu ráða mundu vilja.

Thord tells her (he) would wish this advice.

 

Eftir þetta gengur Vigdís inn og til erkur þeirrar er Þórður átti og finnur

þar í niðri digran fésjóð.

After this Vigdis goes in and to their (erkur?) that Thord had and finds in below a big bag-of-money.

 

Hún tekur upp sjóðinn og gengur út með og þar til er Ingjaldur var og biður hann taka við fénu.

She takes up the purse and goes out with (it) and there to where Ingjald was and asks him (to) take the money.  (How does "við" fit here?)

 

Ingjaldur verður við þetta léttbrúnn og réttir höndina að móti fésjóðnum.

Ingjald responds to this of-cheerful-look and stretches-out the (i.e., "his") hand to meet the money-purse.

 

Vigdís hefur upp fésjóðinn og rekur á nasar honum svo að þegar féll blóð á jörð.

Vigdis (hefur?  heaves?) up the money-purse and thrusts (it) to his nose so that at once blood fell to earth.

 

Þar með velur hún honum mörg hæðileg orð og það með að hann skal þetta fé aldregi fá síðan, biður hann á brott fara.

She selects there with him many derisive words and that with to he shall never get this money afterwards, asks him to go away.

 

Ingjaldur sér sinn kost þann hinn besta að verða á brottu sem fyrst og gerir hann svo og léttir eigi ferð sinni fyrr en hann kemur heim og unir illa við sína ferð.

Ingjald sees his best choice that to go away as first and goes so and doesn't stop his journey before he comes home and was very dissatisfied with his journey.
