My thanks to Alan for posting the helpful notes and color coding with the last translation.  Any help appreciated for my translation below....

Í þenna tíma ríður Ingjaldur af Goddastöðum því að hann ætlaði að heimta þá verð fyrir silfrið.

At this time Ingjald rides from Goddastead because he intended to claim then (the) worth (of) four silver.

 

Og er hann var kominn ofan frá bænum þá sjá þeir tvo menn fara í móti sér og var þar Ásgautur og Þórólfur.

And when he had come below the farm then (he) saw them, two men (who) go towards him and Asgaut and Thorolf were there.

 

Þetta var snemma um morgun svo að lítt var lýst af degi.

This was early in the morning so that the day was just beginning to break.  (CV lítt var lýst af degi, the day was just beginning to break)

 

Þeir Ásgautur og Þórólfur voru komnir í svo mikinn klofa að Ingjaldur var á aðra hönd en Laxá á aðra hönd.

They, Asgaut and Thorolf, were (had) come in so much rift that Ingjald was on the one side and/but Lax-River the other.   (Z annar 1 - á aðra hönd, on the one side; a. … a. one … the other)

 

Áin var ákaflega mikil.

The river was very vehemently. 

 

Voru höfuðísar að báðum megin en gengin upp eftir miðju og var áin allill að sækja.

Head-ices (?) were on both sides and swollen with ice after the middle and the river was (allill?) to seek.

 

Þórólfur mælti við Ásgaut: "Nú þykir mér sem við munum eiga tvo kosti fyrir höndum.

Thorolf spoke with Asgaut: "It now seems to me as with would have two alternatives on hand.

 

Sá er kostur annar að bíða þeirra hér við ána og verjast eftir því sem okkur endist hreysti til og drengskapur en þó er þess meiri von að þeir Ingjaldur sæki líf okkart skjótt.

One such alternative is to wait for them here by the river and defend ourselves after therefore as our only valor to and/also courage and/but although that more prospect (?) they, Ingjald and others, speedily seek our life.

 

Sá er annar kostur að ráða til árinnar og mun það þykja þó enn með nokkurri hættu."

The other such alternative is to adopt a plan (of the river???) and that will seem nevertheless one with some risk.

 

Ásgautur biður hann ráða, kvaðst nú ekki munu við hann skiljast "hvert ráð sem þú vilt upp taka hér um."

Asgaut asks his advice, says-himself now not would with him choose "which course as you would take up here concerning."

 

Þórólfur svarar: "Til árinnar munum við leita."

Thorolf answers: "To the-river would (I) try."

 

Og svo gera þeir, búa sig sem léttlegast.

 

And so they do, prepare themselves as most-easily.

Eftir það ganga þeir ofan fyrir höfuðísinn og leggjast til sunds.

After that they go down from the-chief-ice (?) and swim.

 

Og með því að menn voru hraustir og þeim varð lengra lífs auðið þá komast þeir yfir ána og upp á höfuðísinn öðrum megin.

And with because (the) men were valiant and longer life was granted them then they came over the river and up to the-chief-ice on the other side.

 

Það er mjög jafnskjótt er þeir eru komnir yfir ána að Ingjaldur kemur að öðrum megin að ánni og förunautar hans.

That is very at-once that they were (i.e., had) come over the river that Ingjald came to the other side of the river and his companion.

 

Þá tekur Ingjaldur til orða og mælti til förunauta sinna: "Hvað er nú til ráðs? Skal ráða til árinnar eða eigi?"

Then Ingjald begins to speak and says to his companions: "What is now to advice?  Shall advise to the river or not?"

 

Þeir sögðu að hann mundi ráða, sögðust og hans forsjá mundu hlíta að.

They said that they would advise him, said-themselves and foresaw would trust him. 

 

Þó sýndist þeim áin óyfirfærileg.

Although (it) seemed to-them the river (was) overly-dangerous.  (I am guessing at this last one.  Swedish "farlig" = dangerous, so maybe this is a cognate?)

 

Ingjaldur kvað svo vera "og munum vér frá hverfa ánni."

Ingjald says so be (it) "and we would turn away from the river."

 

En er þeir Þórólfur sjá þetta, að þeir Ingjaldur ráða eigi til árinnar, þá vinda þeir fyrst klæði sín og búa sig til göngu og ganga þann dag allan, koma að kveldi til Sauðafells.

And when they, Thorolf (and Asgaut) saw this, that they, Ingjald (and others) did not try to pass the river, then they first wrung out their clothes and prepared themselves for going and walk all that day, come at evening to Sheep-fell.   (not exactly the same as in the text above, but Z. ráða 16 – skal r. til árinnar eða eigi, shall we try to pass the river or not?)

 

Þar var vel við þeim tekið því að þar var allra manna gisting.

They were received well there so that there were night-lodgings for (?) all men.

 

Og þegar um kveldið gengur Ásgautur á fund Þórólfs rauðnefs og sagði honum alla vöxtu sem á voru um þeirra erindi, að Vigdís frændkona hans hafði þenna mann sent honum til halds og trausts er þar var kominn, sagði honum allt hve farið hafði með þeim Þórði godda.

And as-soon-as at (i.e., it was) evening Asgaut goes to a meeting with Thorolf the Red-nose and told him all the-circumstances-of-the case as to their mission, that Vigdis, his female-relative, had sent this man, who had there come, in his custody and protection, told him how all had went with them, Thord the Good and others.

 

Þar með ber hann fram jartegnir þær er Vigdís hafði sent til Þórólfs.

Therewith he conveyed forward those tokens which Vigdis had sent to Thorolf.
