Alan


Elli sótti (soekja) þá fast að Unni svo að hún reis (rísa) ekki upp fyrir miðjan dag en hún
Old-age then pursued Unnr hard (was fast catching up with her) so that she rose not up before mid-day but (and) she

lagðist (leggjast) snemma niður. Engum manni leyfði hún að sækja (soekja) ráð að sér þess á
lay-herself down (ie retired to bed) early. She permitted no person (man) to seek counsel from herself

milli er hún fór (fara) að sofa á kveldið og hins er hún var klædd (klæða). Reiðulega

Þá mælti Unnur: "Björn kveð (kveðja) eg að þessu bróður minn og Helga og aðra frændur
Then Unnr spoke:I call-the-attention-of (see kveða e-n at e-u, Z3) Björn, my brother, to that, and Helgi and our other kinsmen

vora og vini: Bólstað þenna með slíkum búnaði sem nú megið (mega) þér sjá sel (selja) eg í
and friends: This farmstead with such  equipment as you now can see, I give into

hendur Ólafi frænda mínum til eignar og forráða."
(the) hands of Ólafr, my kinsman, to his possession and guardianship.


Eftir það stóð (standa) Unnur upp og kvaðst ganga mundu til þeirrar (here gen sg fem of demonstr pron) skemmu sem hún
After that Unnr stood up and declared-of-herself (that she) would go to that ladys-bower as she

Og er hann kom (koma) í stofuna sat (sitja) Unnur upp við hægindin (hoegindi). Hún var þá önduð.
And when he came into the-room, Unnr sat (was perched) up against the-pillow. She was then dead.

Gekk (ganga) Ólafur eftir það í skálann og sagði tíðindi þessi. Þótti mönnum mikils um vert (verðr)
Ólafr walked after that into the-hall and said these tidings. (It) seemed of much in value to people (men) (ie they took it greatly to heart)

 hversu Unnur hafði haldið (halda) virðingu sinni til dauðadags. Var nú drukkið (drekka)
how Unnr had held (maintained) her honour to (her) death´s-day. Was now drunk (ie celebrated with drinking)

allt saman, brullaup Ólafs og erfi Unnar. Og hinn síðasta dag boðsins

var Unnur flutt (flytja) til haugs þess er henni var búinn. Hún var lögð (leggja) í skip í
Unnr was conveyed to that how (burial mound) which was prepared for her. She was placed in a ’ship’ in

Ólafur gerðist (görast) ríkur maður og höfðingi mikill. Hann bjó (búa) í Hvammi til elli.
Ólafr became a powerful person (man) and a geat chieftain. He lived in Hvammr to old-age.

Börn þeirra Ólafs og Álfdísar voru Þórður gellir er átti (eiga) Hróðnýju dóttur

father of Snorri (the) priest-chieftain. Helga was-called (the) second daughter of Ólaf. Gunnar Hlífrs-son married her.

Þeirra dóttir var Jófríður er átti (eiga) Þóroddur son Tungu-Odds en síðan
Their daughter was Jófríðr whom Þóroddr, son of Tongue-Oddr married, but after-that

Þorsteinn Egilsson. Þórunn hét enn dóttir hans. Hana átti (eiga) Hersteinn son
Þorsteinn Egills-son. Þórunn was-called yet-another daughter of him. Hersteinn married her, son

Þorkels Blund-Ketilssonar. Þórdís hét (heita) hin þriðja dóttir Ólafs.
of Þorkell Blund-Ketills-son. Þórdís was-called the third daughter of Ólafr.

Hana átti (eiga) Þórarinn Ragabróðir lögsögumaður.
