Flosi mælti þá til sinna manna: "Nú höfum vér fengið (fá; Z4: to
suffer endure) mikinn (mikill, acc.) mannskaða.
Flosi then spoke to his men: "Now we have suffered a great loss (in a
man's death).
Megum (má) vér nú og vita er þetta hefir að borist (bera) hvert
heillaleysi vér höfum. *
We can now also know/have sense that this has happened because (?) we
are ill-lucked.
Er það nú mitt ráð að vér ríðum á Þríhyrningshálsa.
(It) is that my advice that we ride towards Þríhyrningshálsar.
Megum vér þaðan sjá mannareiðir um allt héraðið því að þeir munu nú
hafa sem mestan (see sem, Z3, "with superl.") liðssafnað og munu þeir
ætla að vér höfum riðið austur til Fljótshlíðar af Þríhyrningshálsum.
We can from-there see the ridings of men over all the district for
they must now have the best possible gathering of troops and must they
supppose that we have ridden west to Fljótshlíðr off (away from)
Þríhyrningshálsar.
Og munu þeir þá ætla að vér ríðum austur á fjall og svo austur til
héraða (gen.pl ?).
And they must then (after that) suppose that we are riding west upon
(the) moutain and so (then) west to the districts / valleys.
Mun þangað eftir ríða eftir mestur hluti liðsins en sumir munu ríða
hið fremra austur til Seljalandsmúla og mun þeim þó þykja þangað vor
minni von (ván ?).
Will thither after ride after (us?) the most part of the troops and
some will ride to the most west to Seljalandsmúlar and it will seem to
them to-there is my expectation (??).
En eg mun nú gera ráð fyrir (with acc, Z9, for, for the benefit of ?)
oss og er það mitt ráð að vér ríðum upp í fjallið Þríhyrning og bíðum
þar til þess er þrjár sólir eru af himni."
And I should now make for advice for us and it is my advice that we
ride up in the triangle mountain and wait there until three suns are
of the sky (three days)."
Þeir gera nú svo að þeir ríða upp í fjallið og í dal einn er síðan er
kallaður Flosadalur. Sjá þeir nú þaðan allra manna ferðir um héraðið.
They make now so that they ride up in the mountain and in some dale
which since is called Flosi's dale. They see now thence all men's
journeys over the district.
131. kafli
Nú er að segja frá Kára að hann fór úr gróf þeirri er hann hafði hvílt
sig og þar til er hann mætti Bárði og fóru svo orð með þeim sem
Geirmundur hafði sagt.
Now is to say from Kári that he moved out of the pit in which he had
rested himself and there there to he met Bárðr and the words went so
between them as Geirmundr had said.
Reið Kári þaðan til Marðar Valgarðssonar og sagði honum tíðindin. Hann
harmaði mjög.
Kári rode thence to Marðr son of Valgarðr and told him the tiding(s).
He bewailed much.
Kári kvað þá annað (adv.?) karlmannlegra en gráta þá dauða og bað hann
heldur safna liði og koma öllu til Holtsvaðs.
Kári spoke then next to bolder men and they weep for the dead and
begged him all the more to gather troops and come all to Holtsvaðr.
Síðan reið Kári í Þjórsárdal til Hjalta Skeggjasonar.
After that rode Kári Þjórsárdalr to Hjalti son of Skeggi.
Og þá er hann kom upp með Þjórsá sér hann mann ríða eftir sér hvatlega.
And when (as) he came up along the Þjórsár he sees a man riding
towards him quickly.
Kári beið mannsins og kennir að þar var Ingjaldur frá Keldum.
Kári waited for the man and recognizes that there was Ingjaldr from Keldur.
Hann sér að hann var alblóðugur um lærið.
He sees that he was all in blood over the thigh.
Kári spurði Ingjald hver hann hefði særðan en hann sagði.
Kári asked Ingjaldr who had (injured ?) him and he said.
"Hvar fundust þið?" segir Kári.
"Where have you met?" said Kári.
"Við Rangá," segir Ingjaldur, "og skaut hann yfir ána til mín."
"Near the Rangá," says Ingjaldr, "and he shot over the river towards me."
"Gerðir þú nokkuð í móti?" segir Kári.
"Made you something in return?" says Kári.
"Aftur skaut eg spjótinu," segir Ingjaldur, "og sögðu þeir að maður
yrði (verða, subj.) fyrir og væri sá þegar dauður."
"After shot I the spear," says Ingjaldr, "and they said that a man
happened to be before and fell this one immediately dead."
