Flosi gekk þá að dyrum og mælti að Njáll skyldi ganga til máls við hann og
svo Bergþóra. Þau gerðu svo.

Flosi then went to the door and said that Njall should go to (come and)
speak with him and also Bergthora. They did so.

Flosi mælti: "Útgöngu vil eg bjóða þér Njáll bóndi því að þú brennur
ómaklegur inni."

Flosi spoke, "I want to offer you passage, farmer Njall, because you (would)
improperly burn inside."

Njáll mælti: "Eigi vil eg út ganga því eg er maður gamall og er eg lítt til
búinn að hefna

Njall spoke, "I do not wish to go out because I am an old man and I am
little prepared to avenge

sona minna en eg vil eigi lifa við skömm."

Flosi mælti þá til Bergþóru: "Gakk þú út húsfreyja því að eg vil þig fyrir
engan mun inni brenna."

Bergþóra mælti: "Eg var ung gefin Njáli og hefi eg því heitið honum að eitt
skyldi ganga yfir okkur bæði."

Síðan gengu þau inn bæði.
