"and she had kept all the blood in it" (cf. Alan's translation).

`blóðið' "the blood" (blóð + the suffixed article -ið) is the direct
object of `varðveitt'.
`þar' stands for `skikkjunni' "the cloak".
`þar ... í' "therein" (i.e. in the cloak).
