Þorsteinn Eiríksson settist þá upp og mælti: "Hvar er Guðríður?"
Thorstein Eiriksson sat himself up then and spoke "Where is Guðrið
Þrjá tíma mælti hann þetta en hún þagði.
Three times he spoke these words but she was quiet (remained Silent)
Þá mælti hún við Þorstein bónda: "Hvort skal eg svör veita hans máli eða eigi?"
Then she spoke with Thorstein farmer "What - should I answer his words or not"
Hann bað hana eigi svara. Þá gekk Þorsteinn bóndi yfir gólfið og settist á stólinn en Guðríður sat í knjám honum.
He bade her not reply. Then Thorstein Farmer went across the room and sat upon the Stool with Guðrið on his knee
Og þá mælti Þorsteinn bóndi: "Hvað viltu nafni?" segir hann.
And then spoke Thorstein Farmer "What do you want Namesake"
says he
Hann svarar er stund leið: "Mér er annt til þess að segja Guðríði forlög sít til þess að hún kunni þá betur andláti mínu því að eg er kominn til góðra hvíldarstaða.
He answers a little later "I am anxious to say to Guðrið her fate so that she knows then better, of my death for I have gone to a good place of rest
En það er þér að segja Guðríður að þú munt gift vera íslenskum
manni og munu langar vera samfarir ykkar og mart manna mun frá ykkur koma,
and that to you I say Guðrið you will be given in marriage to a Man of Iceland and you will live a long life together and many folk (descendants) shall come from you two
þroskasamt, bjart og ágætt, sætt og ilmað vel.
promising, bright, and praised/praiseworthy peaceful and well-scented
Munuð þið fara af Grænlandi til Noregs og þaðan til Íslands og gera bú á Íslandi.
You will go from Greenland to Norway and thence to Iceland and set up a home in Iceland
Þar munuð þið lengi búa og muntu honum lengur lifa.
There you will live a long life, and you will live longer than he (the husband)
Þú munt utan fara og ganga suður og koma út aftur til Íslands til bús þíns og þá mun þar kirkja reist vera og muntu þarvera og taka nunnuvígslu og þar muntu andast."
You will travel abroad and go south (synonym for Pilgrimage) then return to Iceland to your home and there a church will be built.
There you will stay and take the veil (Z) amd there will die.
Og þá hnígur Þorsteinn aftur og var búið um lík hans og fært til skips.
And with that Thorstein fell back and his corpse was made ready and taken to the ship
Þorsteinn bóndi efndi vel við Guðríði allt það er hann hafði heitið.
Thorstein Farmer fulfilled (Z) his promise well with Guðrið - all -
every one that he had made
Hannseldi um vorið jörð sína og kvikfé og fór til skips með Guðríði með allt sitt,
In the spring he sold his estate (Z4) and his living property (animals) and loaded up his ship (along) with Guðrið and all (that was) his
bjó skipið og fékk menn til og fór síðan til Eiríksfjarðar. Voru nú
líkin jörðuð að kirkju.
He prepared the ship and made/hired a crew and sailed to Eirik'sFjorð. Now they (the bodies) were buried in Earth at the Church (in a Graveyard)
Guðríður fór til Leifs í Brattahlíð en Þorsteinn svarti gerði bú í
Eiríksfirði og bjó þar meðan hann lifði og þótti vera hinn vaskasti maður.
Guðrið went to Leif's (Place) in Brattahlið and Thorstein Black built a farm in Eirikl'sFjorð and lived there for as long as he lived and he was thought to be a most manly/valiant (Z) man

Það sama sumar kom skip af Noregi til Grænlands. Sá maður hét Þorfinnur karlsefni er því skipi stýrði. Hann var son Þórðar hesthöfða Snorrasonar, Þórðarsonar frá Höfða.
That same summer came a ship from Norway to Greenland
It's (Her - ships are ladies) Master/Skipper was named Thorfinn Karlsefni and he steered the ship.
He was the son of Thord Horsehead, the son of Snorri Thordarsson from Hofdi
