Þetta sumar hið sama komu þeir Njálssynir til Noregs af Orkneyjum og
voru þar í kaupstefnu
That same summer the Njalssons went to Norway from Orkney and were there at the Market/Trading
og biðu þar Kára Sölmundarsonar sem þeir höfðu
við mælst.

Þráinn Sigfússon bjó þá skip sitt til Íslands og var nú

til goðahúss þeirra jarls og Guðbrands.

Hann gekk inn í húsið. Hann
sá Þorgerði hölgabrúði sitja og var hún svo mikil sem maður roskinn.
He went inside. He saw (a statue) of Thorderð Holgi's Bride and she was the
size of a full grown man
Hún hafði mikinn gullhring á hendi og fald á höfði. Hann sviptir
faldinum hennar og tekur af henni gullhringinn.
She had a great gold ring on her arm and a hood on her head. He whipped
(snatched ?) the hood off and took the gold ring
Þá sér hann kerru
Þórs og tekur af honum annan gullhring.
He then saw Thor in his chariot and took another gold ring
Hann tók hinn þriðja af Irpu
og dró þau öll út og tók af þeim allan búnaðinn. Síðan lagði hann eld
í goðahúsið og brenndi upp.
He took a third (gold ring) from Irpa and pulled them all outside the Temple and removed all their decorations/vestments. After that he set fire to the Temple
and burned it all down
Eftir það gengur hann braut. Tók þá að
morgna. Hann gengur um akurland nokkurt.
Afterwards he went away / left. It took then to morning (?) (Dawn was breaking)
He was going through a cornfield
Þar spruttu upp sex menn með
vopnum og sækja þegar að honum en hann verst vel.
There appeared (?suddenly) six armed men - who attacked him
and he fought well
Verða þær
málalyktir að hann vegur þrjá menn en særir Þránd til ólífis en eltir
tvo til skógar svo að þeir báru enga njósn jarli.
This was the outcome/result that he killed three men and wounded Thrand
badly and left two others in the forest - so they could not tell
the news to the earl (or sent two others to the forest)
Hann gekk þá að Þrándi og mælti: "Kosti á eg nú að vega þig og vil eg
það eigi. Skal eg meira virða mágsemd við þig en þér virðið við mig."
He went to Thrand aand spoke"I could (have the choice) to kill you now but I shall not. I shall have more value/respect for my relatives than you have for me "
Hrappur ætlar nú að snúa aftur á skóginn. Sér hann nú að menn eru
komnir meðal skógarins og hans.
Hrapp thought now of turning back into the forest. He saw now men were
coming (appearing) between himself and the Forest
Treystist hann þá eigi þangað á að
leita. Leggst hann þá niður í runna nokkura og liggur þar um stund.
He did not dare to do that He lay himself down in some bushes and stayed there a while
Þeir Hákon jarl og Guðbrandur gengu þenna morgun snemma til
goðahússins og fundu það brunnið upp en úti þrjú goðin og úr öllum
skrúðanum.
They - Earl Hakon and Guðbrand went early that morning to the temple
and found it all burned up with the three Gods outside and all robbed of their garments (?robes)
Þá tók Guðbrandur til orða: "Mikill máttur er gefinn goðum vorum er
þau hafa gengið sjálf úr eldinum."
Then took Guðbrand to words (more declaring then speaking I think)
"Our Gods are very powerful/strong - they have walked by themselves
from the fire"
This seemed a tad easier this time
