For and example you want ð you hold Alt and go to the right hand side where the extra little letters are
and do 0240 - this does not work if you try to use the little row of Figs at the top line of your keyboard
what you need is a Character map and you use the method just described - or you use your mouse and drag and drop on the text you are writing
for your Character map
Go to start/All Programs/accessories/System tools/Character Map
Once you know where to find it you can - Right click and pin to start menu for ease of access
There are all the codes on the Character map you are ever likely to need
