That's what I get for looking in the irregular verb forms pages in the back
of Zoega first!  Keyri is given as an alternate form for kjósa, but
obviously the sense didn't fit.

Grace, 'keyrir' is the 3rd pers. present indicative of 'keyra' (ða,
ðr) "(1) to whip, spur on; (2) ride; (3) fling (as in this example);
(4) drive, thrust; (5) impersonal with acc. to be driven, tossed (by
wind, waves, etc.)"  I'm not aware of there being an etymological link
with the verb 'kjósa' "to choose" - from the form of the word, it
seems possible, but I can't see any obvious semantic connection.
