OMG the poetry is full of Kennings and I have gotten lost in finding the new words - in many cases - any critique welcome - I'll get that over with first

Nú ræða þeir um ferð sína og hafa tilskipan.
They now discussed their jouney and had an arrangement (CV)
Vill Þórhallur veiðimaður fara
norður um Furðustrandir og fyrir Kjalarnes og leita svo Vínlands
Thorhall wants to go North past Furðustrandr and Kjalarnes to seek Vinland there
en
Karlsefni vill fara suður fyrir land og fyrir austan og þykir land því meira
sem suður er meir og þykir honum það ráðlegra að kanna hvorttveggja.
But Karlsefni wants to go south by the coast and turn East. and thinks the land would improve further south and thinks they should explore both
Nú býst
Þórhallur út undir eynni og urðu eigi meir í ferð með honum en níu menn. En
með Karlsefni fór annað liðið þeirra.
Now Thorhall readies himself out under the island (to leeward?) and there were no more on his journey only nine men with him. The rest went with Karlsefni and his troop (?)
Og einn dag er Þórhallur bar vatn á skip sitt þá drakk hann og kvað vísu
þessa:
One (particular) day Thorhall bore water to his ship and drank of it and recited this verse
Hafa kváðu mig meiðar
They told me those treetrunks (warriors)
málmþings, er kom eg hingað,
of battle when I came here
mér samir láð fyr lýðum
to me (I would have) the same as people never had
lasta, drykk hinn basta
such drink of the best
Bílds hattar verðr byttu
drink I have from a bucket
beiði-Týr að reiða.
I prayed Tyr to help
Heldr er svo að eg krýp að keldu,
the contrary has come and I crouch at a spring
komat vín á grön mína.
comes no wine to my lips
Láta þeir út síðan og fylgir Karlsefni þeim undir eyna. Áður þeir drógu
seglið upp kvað Þórhallur vísu:
Then they put to sea Karlsefni accompanies then out past the island.
Before they set sail (drew sail up) Thorhall recited this verse
Förum aftr þar er órir
Let us now go back from this place
eru sandhimins landar,
our sandheaven rider (kennings for sea and ship)
látum kenni-Val kanna
Set out to learn (got Lost here)
knarrar skeið hin breiðu.
to know (explore) the seas wideness
Meðan bilstyggir byggja
Meanwhile the ( what !) settle
bellendr og hval vella
Those who would take part in (G) boiling whale
Laufa veðrs, þeir er leyfa
Praise the weather and they who seek
lönd, á Furðuströndum.
The land of Furðustrands
Síðan skildu þeir og sigldu norður fyrir Furðustrandir og Kjalarnes og vildu
beita þar fyrir vestan.
After that they parted and sailed North from Furðustrands and Kjalarnes and tried to go West of it
Kom þá veður á móti þeim og rak þá upp við Írland og
voru þar mjög þjáðir og barðir. Þá lét Þórhallur líf sitt.
But they came into weather/Storms and were driven ashore to Ireland,
and were there beaten and enslaved. Thorhall died there
It seemed to be strange to me that even Thorhall the Ogreish sis not know the warmer weather is often to the South of the Frozen North
