Nú er að segja frá Skammkatli að hann ríður að sauðum upp með Rangá og sér
hann að

"Kenna skulu þá fleiri," segir Skammkell, "en við tveir því að trúr skal eg
þér í ráðum."

Then more (people) should recognize (them) ,says Skammkell, "than we two
because I shall (have) faith in you concerning advice."

Þeir sýndu mörgum mönnum og kenndu þeir allir.

They showed many men and all recognized (them).

Þá mælti Skammkell: "Hvað munt þú nú til ráða taka?"

Then Skammkell spoke, "What plan will you now adopt?"

Otkell svaraði: "Við skulum fara að finna Mörð Valgarðsson og sýna honum og
vita hvað

Otkell answered, "We shall go to meet Mord Valgard's son and show him and

"Svo er víst," segir Mörður, "en þó mun eg vita þá hluti úr híbýlum Gunnars
er hvorgi ykkar mun vita."

"That is certain," says Mord, "but still I will know then part out of
Gunnar's improvement of homestead which neither of you will know."

"Gefa viljum vér þér fé til," segja þeir, "að þú leitir eftir þessu máli."

"We will give you money towards (this)," the say, "that you take up this
case."

Mörður svaraði: "Það fé mun mér fullkeypt en þó má vera að eg hætti á."

Mord answered, "This money will to me (may be) bought dearly, but still (it)
may be that I risk(it)."

Síðan gáfu þeir honum þrjár merkur silfurs að hann skyldi vera með þeim í
ráðagerð og
