I had trouble towards the end of this section sorting out what was being

Hann tók öxina og var reiður mjög og tekur hest er Gunnar átti og ríður þar

He took the axe and was very angry and takes a horse which Gunnar had and

"That may be," says he, " but still that slaying (I) dreamt for me before
when I fought to (the) death?."
Nú koma þeir upp í skóginn og finna Svart veginn og flytja hann heim.
Now they come up into the forest and find Svart slain and carry him home.
Hallgerður sendi mann til þings að segja Gunnari vígið. Gunnar hallmælti
Hallgerði ekki
Hallgerd sent a man to (the) Thing to tell Gunnar of (the) slaying. Gunnar
did not blame Hallgerd
um fyrir sendimanninum og vissu menn eigi hvort honum þótti vel eða illa.
Litlu síðar
about (it) before the messenger and men didn't know whether he thought well
or ill. A little later
stóð hann upp og bað menn sína ganga með sér. Þeir gerðu svo og fóru til
búðar Njáls.

Gunnar sendi mann eftir Njáli og bað hann út koma. Njáll gekk út þegar og
gengu þeir Gunnar á tal.

Gunnar mælti: "Víg hefi eg að segja þér og hefir valdið Hallgerður kona mín
en vegið
Gunnar spoke, "I have a slaying to report to your and Hallgerd, my wife,
caused (it) but slain
hefur Kolur verkstjóri minn en fyrir hefir orðið Svartur húskarl þinn."
has Kol, my overseer, and Svart, your house servant, (is the one it) has
happened upon."
Njáll þagði meðan Gunnar sagði söguna.
Njal was silent while Gunnar told the tale.
Þá mælti Njáll: "Þurfa munt þú að láta hana eigi öllu fram koma."
Then Njal spoke, "You will need to not allow her to get away with all (of
this)."
Gunnar mælti: "Sjálfur skalt þú dæma."
Gunnar spoke, "You shall pass judgement yourself."
Njáll mælti: "Erfitt mun þér verða að bæta öll slys Hallgerðar og mun annars
staðar meira
Njal spoke, "Work will happen to you to compensate for all mischief of
Hallgerd and will another's position more
