Gunnar hélt út úr elfinni og voru þeir Kolskeggur á einu skipi báðir en
Hallvarður var á

Gunnar steered out of the river and they (he and) Kolskegg were both on one
ship but Hallvard was on

Þá mælti Gunnar: "Verum vér að nokkuru við búnir ef þeir leita á oss en
eigum ekki við þá ellegar."

Then Gunnar spoke, "We (should) be ready for something if they attack us but
we don't have (to attack?) then otherwise."

Þeir gerðu svo og bjuggust við á skipum sínum. Hinir skildu í sundur skipin
og gerðu hlið

They did so and prepared themselves with their ships. The other ship
separated apart and made a space

í millum skipanna. Gunnar fór fram í milli skipanna. Vandill þreif upp

Karl's ship and that one had death who was in front. Kolskegg picks up the
anchor and throws (it) to Karl's ship and

kom fleinninn í borðið og gekk út í gegnum og féll þar inn sær kolblár og
hljópu menn

and the flukes (of the anchor) into (the) boards and (it) went out through
and there rushed in (the) coal black sea and men all leaped

allir af skeiðinni og á önnur skipin. Gunnar hljóp nú aftur á sitt skip.

Þá kom að Hallvarður og tókst nú bardagi mikill. Sáu þeir nú að formaður var
