There were a couple of mystery words and some places I couldn't figure out
what was going on.

Gunnar reið til alþingis. Þeir Hrútur og Höskuldur riðu og til þings og
fjölmenntu mjög.
Gunnar rode to (the) Allthing. They, Hrut and Hoskuld, rode also to (the)
thing and a great many people (with them).
Gunnar sækir mál þetta á þingi. Hann kvaddi búa til máls og höfðu þeir
Hrútur ætlað að
Gunnar prosecutes this suit at (the) Thing. He demanded to begin a suit and
they Hrut (and company?) had intended to
veita honum atgöngu en treystust eigi. Síðan gekk Gunnar að
Breiðfirðingadómi og bauð
attack him but did not dare. Afterwards Gunnar went to Broad district court
and invited
Hrúti að hlýða til eiðspjalls síns og framsögu sakar og sóknargagna allra.
Eftir það vann
Hrut to listen to his oath and statement of (the) case and all proofs for
prosecution (z). After it
hann eið og sagði fram sök. Síðan lét hann bera stefnuvætti, þá
sakartökuvætti. Njáll var eigi við dóminn.

case. Njal was not with (him) at the court.
Nú sótti Gunnar málið þar til er hann bauð til varna. Hrútur nefndi votta og
sagði ónýtt

Hrut named witnesses and said (the) case was useless
málið og sagði hann misst hafa þeirra þriggja vottorða er í dóminn áttu að

og skalt þú berjast við mig í dag í hólmi þeim er hér er í Öxará. En ef þú
vilt eigi berjast
and you shall fight with me today on those islands which here are in Axe
River. But if you wish not to fight

Síðan gekk Gunnar frá dóminum með öllu liði sínu. Þeir Höskuldur og Hrútur

Afterwards those brothers asked ? what they wished to (have them) lay out.
They answered that they would lay out such as Hrut wished.
