Chapter 21
Nú er þar til máls að taka er
Unnur hefir látið allt lausaféið. Hún gerði
heiman ferð sína til Hlíðarenda
og tók Gunnar vel við frændkonu sinni og var
hún þar um nóttina.
Now there is is the Story takes/turns to Unn who was lost and penniless (Flat-Broke-Skint) lost all her property and moved from home amd journeys to High-Edge and Gunnar gave his Kinswoman a good welcome and she was to stay the night
Um daginn eftir sátu þau úti og töluðu. Kom þar niður
tal hennar að hún
sagði honum hversu þungt henni féll til fjár.
The next day they sat outside and talked. It came
round to as she said to him how pressed she was for
money
"Illa er það," sagði hann.
"That is Bad " said he
"Hver úrræði vilt þú
veita mér?" sagði hún.
"What advice will you give me" said
she
Hann svaraði: "Haf þú fé svo mikið sem þú þarft er eg á á
leigustöðum."
He Replied "you have as much as you need of that I
have on loan
"Eigi vil eg það," segir hún, "að eyða fé
þínu."
"I di not want that" says she " that is waste of your
money"
"Hversu vilt þú þá?" segir hann
"What then do you want" says he.
"Eg vil að
þú heimtir fé mitt undan Hrúti," segir hún
"I want you to claim/demand my money from Hrut" says
she.
"Eigi þykir mér það vænt," segir hann, "þar er faðir þinn
fékk eigi heimt og
var hann lögmaður mikill en eg kann lítt til laga."
"That seems not promising says he "your father did not make claim and he was a great Lawman -
I know little about the Law"
Hún svaraði:
"Meir þreytti Hrútur það með kappi en með lögum en faðir minn
var gamall og
þótti mönnum því það ráð að þeir þreyttu það ekki með sér.
Enda er sá engi
minn frændi að gangi í þetta mál ef þú hefir eigi þrek til."
She replied "Hrut more prosecuted with force than with law and my father was old and people did not think it wise
they should fight/prosecute
Besides none of my relatives are to pursue this case (for me) if you do not have the courage to do so
