When this question was originally answered by LN he used the most commonly found spelling IMO
and as for any "Superfluity* - from the way you have stated your question it seems to me that it is relatively easier to discuss the question of etymology if one actually has before one; the most frequently found form of the word or expression.
Otherwise the question arises "what the dickens are we supposed to be discussing"
I found not a superfluous word in LN's reply

Before establishing an etymology of this word it is not superfluous to
specify its form: various printed editions and MSS have rather vage
spelling: Hærvaða and even Hávaða.
