Thanks for the help, Alan! Also, is the varafeldr a cloak made something
like a Greek flokati rug? I was under the impression that it was woven with
long strands of with a normal woolen warp and weft, except that strands of
yarn or unspun wool were woven in at intervals that would hang loose and
which would be extra warm. The appearance would be similar to a sheepskin
only that it would not be as heavy and could be washed.
As to the loft, when we were in an open air museum in Sweden or maybe in
Little Norway in Wisconsin, we saw wooden buildings with an upper story that
was cantilevered out on both sides over the lower floor and we were told
that the loft was sometimes used for sleeping, but the downstairs was for
grain storage, I think. Is that the sort of building here, or are the ones
we saw from a much later period?
