Þeir Hrútur fóru austur til Konungahellu. En er þeir komu þar gengu í mót
They Hrut (and the others) went east to (the) Kings Cairn. And when they
came there kinsmen and friends went to meet them

Annan dag eftir mælti Hrútur við Össur: "Göngum við nú fyrir konung."
(The) next day Hrut spok with Ossur, "We go now before (the) king."
"Það má vel," sagði Össur.
"May it (go) well," said Ossur.
Þeir gengu tólf saman og voru þeir allir frændur þeirra og vinir. Þeir komu
They went twelve altogether and they were all kinsmen of theirs and friends.

"Að sjá tign yðra herra og það annað að eg á erfðamál mikið hér í landi og

mun eg yðvar verða við að njóta að eg fái rétt af."

Konungur mælti: "Hverjum manni hefi eg heitið lögum hér í landi eða hver eru
(the) king spoke, "To every man I have promised (treatment? according to)
law here in (this) country but what
fleiri erindi þín á vorn fund?"

"Herra," sagði Hrútur, "eg vil biðja yður hirðvistar og gerast yðvar maður."
"Lord," said Hrut, "I want to ask (to become) your king's man and become
your man."
Konungur þagnar við.
With (that the) king was silent.
Gunnhildur mælti: "Svo líst mér sem sjá maður bjóði yður hina mestu sæmd því
Gunnhild spoke, " So is pleasing to me as to see a man offer to you the
greatest honour because
að mér líst svo ef slíkir væru margir innan hirðar sem þá væri vel skipað."
to me is pleasing so if such were greater in (the) kingsmen as there were
well in order."??
