Nú skipár Hrafnkell á Aðalbóli búi sínum mönnum. Þóri,
son sinn, setr hann á Hrafnkelsstaði.

Now sets up Hrafnkell his farm (and) men Thorir his son he places at Hrafnkelstad

 

Hefir nú goðorð yfir öllum
sveitum. Ásbjörn var með föður sínum, því at hann var
yngri.

Now he has goðorð (chieftain's right) over all the districts.

Asbjorn (another son) was with his father bwcause he was younger

Sámr sat á Leikskálum þenna vetr. Hann var hljóðr ok 860
fáskiptinn. Fundu margir þat, at hann unði lítt við sinn hlut.
San sat/stayed at Leikskala that winter. He was quiet and reserved

many found that he was  ?? unhappy with his lot??

 

En um vetrinn, er daga lengði, fór Sámr við annan mann --
ok hafði þrjá hesta --

And in that winter days were longer - Sam went with one servant and three horses

 

yfir brú ok þaðan yfir Möðrudalsheiði ok
svá yfir Jökulsá uppi á fjalli, svá til Mývatns, þaðan yfir
Fljótsheiði ok Ljósavatnsskarð ok létti eigi fyrr en hann kom 865
vestr í Þorskafjörð.

Over the bridge - there afterover Moðrudal Heath and so over the Jokulsa (river) up the fells

so until Myvatns (lake) after that over Fljots Heath and Ljosvatn (?lake again) and made no stop

till he came west to Thorskafjord

 

Er þar tekit vel við honum. Þá var
Þorkell nýkominn út ór för. Hann hafði verit útan fjóra vetr.

It there took well with him  (?) - he was well received

There was Thorkell come  from a voyage. He had been abroad four years/winters

Sámr var þar viku ok hvíldi sik. Síðan segir hann þeim
viðskipti þeira Hrafnkels ok beiðir þá brœðr ásjá ok liðsinnis
enn sem fyrr. 870

 

Sam  was there a week and rested himself

After that he tells them his dealings with Hrafnkell and asks the brothers help

and support as before

 

Good Grief - not again surely !!!

 

Sael Grace - I see we do not differ much here - I am much comforted with that
