Hi there Alan,

Maðurinn er mikið vinsælli (en hinn maðurinn): Comparative: mikið
[more] is adverb.
The dative form "miklu"[much more] [from miklu is mikið] used in
comparative to accentuate. Especial usage.
I consulted one of my dictionaries [for you now].
