I am going to hate myself for this, there is a vein running behind the tendon known as the Hough Tendon or Achilles Tendon, and this vein if pierced by a clumsy knife wielding person would bleed copiously, they being hung upside down would also be giddy, the blood in their eyes could be  from a combination of giddiness and blood and also strain, hanging upside down can cause petechiae which may give the appearance of blood stains, but for me this blood in their eyes stems from a pierced vein and hanging upsy-down - Nasty!!!

I enquired from a friend who is a coroner and he ..... no that is enough

I also question the blood dripping down in front of their eyes.  Any blood
would have been long since absorbed by their clothing before it got to their
faces, plus the area where I imagine the men were stabbed isn't well
supplied with blood vessels.  I wondered if the blood reference was due to
their having been hung upside down for a period of time and now were right
side up and the blood was truly running down inside their bodies from their
heads making them dizzy perhaps.
