I had a LOT of trouble with this section.  Couldn’t find some of the words and some I did find didn’t seem to be fit or make sense.

Hrafnkell 309-330

 

Þat var einn morgin snimma, at Þorbjörn karl vaknar. Hann

It was early one morning, that the man wakes Þorbjörn.  He

 

310 vekr Sám ok bað hann upp standa. 'Má ek ekki sofa.'

wakes Sam and bade him get up.  “May I not sleep.(?)”

 

Sámr stendr upp ok ferr í klæði sín. Þeir ganga út ok ofan at Øxará,

Sam gets up and gets into his clothes.  They go out and down to Øxará,

 

fyrir neðan brúna. Þar þvá þeir sér. Þorbjörn mælti við Sám: 'Þat er

beneath the brow of the hill.  The washed themselves there.(?) Þorbjörn spoke with Sam, “It is 

 

ráð mitt, at þú látir reka at hesta vára, ok búumsk heim. Er nú sét, at

my counsel, that you cause to drive horses(?) in spring (?), and make ready to (go) home. When now (?), that

 

oss vill ekki annat 315 en svívirðing.' Sámr svarar: 'Þat er vel, af

nothing will be possible for us but disgrace.”  Sam answers, “It is well,

 

því at þú vildir ekki annat en deila við Hrafnkel ok vildir eigi þá

because you wish nothing to be possible but to quarrel with H. and wish not then

 

kosti þiggja, er margr mundi gjarna þegit hafa, sá er eptir sinn náunga

to accept (his) terms, that many would gladly have accepted, such a one who  after his neighbors

 

átti at sjá. Frýðir þú oss mjök hugar ok öllum þeim, er í þetta mál

had to see (?).  You challenge our courage much and all them who in that time

 

vildu eigi ganga 320 með þér. Skal ek nú ok aldri fyrr af láta en mér

will not go with you.  Shall I now ever before desist, but to me it

 

þykkir fyrir ván komit, at ek geta nökkut at gert." Þá fær Þorbirni svá

seems past all hope, that I get something ?”  Then it got to (?) Þorbjörn so

 

mjök, at hann grætr. Þá sjá þeir vestan at ánni, hóti neðar en þeir

325 þrekligr, er fyrstr gekk, í laufgronum kyrtli ok hafði búit sverð í

strong, who went first in a leaf green tunic, and had readied sword in

 

hendi, réttleitr maðr ok rauðlitaðr ok vel í yfirbragði, ljósjarpr á

hand, a man (of) regular features and (wearing clothes?) dyed red, light chestnut of

 

hár ok mjök hærðr. Sjá maðr var auðkenniligr, því at hann hafði Ijósan

hair and very hairy???  This man was easy to recognize, because he had ?

 

lepp í hári sínu inum vinstra megin. Sámr mælti: 'Stöndum upp ok göngum

lock in his hair on the left side.  Sam spoke, “Get up and go

 

vestr yfir ána til 330 móts við þessa menn.'
