Here’s my translation. Comments on others’ translation included in separate feedback posts. As an experiment, I have created up a small web page as a means of demonstrating the grammar, glossary, and translation for this section. Þorsteinn Ingimundarson var þá höfðingi í Vatnsdal.
Þorstein, son of Ingimund, was then chief in Vatnsdal (Lake Valley)
Hann bjó at Hofi, ok þótti mestr maðr þar í sveitum.
He dwelt at Hof (Temple), and was thought (the) greatest man there in (the) district.
Ingólfr ok Guðbrandr váru synir hans.
Ingólf ok Guðbrand were his sons.
Ingólfr var vænstr maðr norðanlands;
Ingólf was (the) most handsome man of (the) northern part of the country;
um hann var þetta kveðit:
about him was this said (in verse):
Allar vildu meyjar með Ingólfi ganga
All (the) maidens wanted to go with Ingólf
þær's vaxnar váru -- vesl emk æ til lítil!
those who were grown up – I, (being) too little, am always miserable!
Ek skal ok, kvað kerling, með Ingólfi ganga
I shall also, said (the) old woman, go with Ingólf
meðan mér tvær of tolla tennr í efra gómi.
while my (dat) two teeth are (yet) firmly lodged in (my) upper gum.
