I found nothing too difficult about this passage – I hope I haven’t missed something. One very minor thing that struck me was the three instances where “hann” appears in the accusative in clauses where the subject is not written but understood, temporarily suggesting that “hann” might be the subject (ie nominative) until one reads the rest of the clause.

And now (the) king gave him very much silver,

All that money (ie the silver) which (the) king had given him towards the journey then goes up (runs out);

(he) then takes up (adopts) a beggar’s way, and begs for his food.

 

Hann er þá kollóttr ok heldr ósælligr.

He is then bald and rather wretched.
