> "The legacy of the Valkyrie lives on in the word "valour", a
> reference to heroism in battle"--first I've heard of this!!

I'm not sure these two words are related. Valour is from
French/Latin and has to do with strength: valour, valiant, valid..all
these come from the Latin "valere" - to be strong.
My name is Val so I have often been wondering myself about the
connection between the French meaning of my name -strong- and the
Germanic/Norse meanings of valr= the slain, but I have not found any
connections so far. I suppose valour could be related to the word
Valkyrie in that it was influenced by the connection with battle?
because the two words do have the common link with battle, but it
might just be a coincidence. Does anyone happen to know more about
this?
