Góðan daginn
Auðun – 6 Translation follows:
Hann
ferr nú síðan suðr með landi ok í Vík austr
He travels now afterwards south along (the) land and east into Vík
ok þá til Danmerkr; ok er þá uppi hverr penningr fjárins,
and then to Denmark; and (by) then is each penny of (his) possessions (sg)
(used) up,
ok verðr hann þá biðja matar bæði fyrir sik ok fyrir dýrít.
and he must then ask for food both for himself and for the animal.
Hann kømr á fund ármanns Sveins konungs,
þess er Áki hét,
He comes into a meeting with King Sveinn’s steward, that one who was
called Áki,
ok bað hann vista nakkvarra bæði fyrir sik ok fyrir dýrit:
and asked him for some provisions both for himself and for the animal:
'ek ætla', segir hann, 'at gefa Sveini konungi dýrit.'
’I intend’, says he, ’to give the animal to King
Sveinn.’
Question:
Is ”Danmerkr” really in the genitive? If so, what class of noun is it? r-stem ?
Kveðja
Alan
