Konungr mælti: "Villtu selja oss dýrit við slíku verði sem þú keyptir?" 
king - says - will you - sell - us - animal the - in exchange for - such - worth - as - you - bought/paid
The king asked: "Will you sell me the animal for the price you paid?"
 
Hann svarar:  "Eigi vil ek þat, herra." 
he - answers - not - will - I - that - lord
He answered: "I am not willing (to do) that, sire."
 
"Villtu þá," segir konungr, "at ek gefa þér tvau verð slík?
will you - then - says - king - that - I - give - to you - two - worth - such
"Will you then," said the king, "let me give you twice that price?"
 
ok mun þat réttara, ef þú hefir þar við gefit alla þína eigu." 
and - shall - that - just/fair - if - you - have - there - in exchange for - given - all - your - possessions
That would be fair, if you have given all your possessions in exchange (for it.)"
 
"Eigi vil ek þat, herra", segir hann. 
not - will - I - that - lord - says - he
"I am not willing (to do) that, sire," he replied.
 
Konungr mælti: "Villtu gefa mér þá?"

The king asked: "Will you give (it) to me then?"
 
Hann svarar, "Eigi, herra."

He answered, "No, sire."
 
Konungr mælti: "Hvat villtu þá af gøra?" 
king - says - what - will you - then - concerning - do
The king asked: "What will you do with it then?"
 
Hann svarar:  "Fara," segir hann,
he - answers - go - says - he
"Go," he answered,
 
"til Danmerkr ok gefa Sveini konungi." 
to - Danmerkr - and - give - to Sveinn - king
"to Denmark and give (it) to King Svein."
 
Haraldr konungr segir, "Hvárt er, at þú ert maðr svá óvitr
Haraldr - king - says - can it be - that - you - are - a man - so - ignorant
King Harald said, "Can it be that you are such an ignorant man
 
at þú hefir eigi heyrt ófrið þann er í milli er landa þessa,
that - you - not - hear of - hostility - that - is - between - countries - these
that you have not heard of the hostility between these countries,
 
eða ætlar þú giptu þína svá mikla,
or - think - you - good luck - your - so - great 
or do you think your luck so great
 
at þú munir þar komask með gørsimar,
that - you - can - there - make (your) way - with - treasures
that you can go with treasures
 
er aðrir fá eigi komizk klakklaust,
when - others- are able - not - to make (their) way - without injury
where others cannot travel without harm, 
þó at nauðsyn eigi til?"
