    That's really funny that you should mention that-- about the surname system in Iceland.  I was actually wondering about that myself just this morning.  (Don't ask why--- we were discussing patrilineal societies in my history class today, so it just came into my head.)  And by the way, Irish surnames are beautiful--- speaking from someone who has one!
