    I do know that also in Gaeilge, they also use "blue men" to describe black people.  Possibly "An gorm fear" ?  My Gaelic's about as good as my Old Norse.  :)  I'm not sure if they do the same in GĂ idhlig, though.

Thanks for the Gaelic reference to 'blue men. Sarah really has hit a rich vein with her query. What an interesting set of responses we have had. I stand amazed at the combined knowledge and expertise of the group. We haven't had a response like this since  young Teja asked for translations of 'My husband is crazy'
