Bơðvarr Bjarki lines 30 – 48  A quiet evening meal...

Eptir þat kveldar ok drifa menn í hơllina ok sjá Hrólfs kappar at Hơttr er settr á bekk upp,

After - that - evening draws in - and - crowd/throng - men - into - the hall - and - see - Hrolf's - champions - how - Hood - is - seated - on - a bench - up

Then it drew on towards evening and men crowded into the hall, and Hrolf's champions saw how Hood had been seated up on a bench,

ok þykkir þeim sá maðr hafa gơrt sik oerit djarfan, er þetta hefir til tekit.

and - it seems - to them - this - man - has - made/acted - himself - enough (as adv.) - bold - who - this - has - undertaken

and it seemed to them that this man had made himself bold enough, to choose to take this (action.)

Ilt tillit hefir Hơttr, þá er hann sér kunningja sína, því at hann hefir ilt eitt af þeim reynt,

Bad - glance/look - has - Hood - when - he - sees - acquaintances - his - because - he - has (gotten) - bad/evil - only - from - their - testing

Hood scowled when he saw his acquaintances, because he had received only ill-treatment from them.

He eagerly wanted to live and to get back into his pile of bones, but Bodvarr gripped him,

Hood - is - so - afraid - of (that) - he - takes - not - meat - nor - drink - and - it seems - to him - then - and - then (every moment) - that - he - must - be - striken

Hood was so frightened he could neither eat nor drink, and it seemed to him as if any moment he would be struck.

Ok nú mælti Hơttr til Bơðvars “Bokki sæll, nú ferr at þér stór knúta, ok mun þetta ætlat okkr til nauða.”

And - now - said - Hood - to - Bodvarr - fellow - fortunate - now - goes (fara at = to attack?) - towards - you - great/huge - knucklebone - and - must - that - intends - us two - to - distress/harm

And now Hood said to Bodvarr, "Dear bucko, a huge knucklebone is now launching towards you, and that (attack) must intend us harm."
