All is now clear. You have enlightened me and I am very grateful.
In Britain, certainly in England we are notoriously bad at learning other languages. I suppose this is one of the cultural disadvantages of being (once) an empire that spread the English language round the world, which expected everyone  else to learn English because we couldn't be bothered to learn other people's languages. And as we declined, the Americans took over.
This is a long-winded way of saying I admire your ability to learn other languages and the apparent ease with which you do it.  I wish I had started forty years earlier.
