I am new to this list and do not know how 2 books I picked up on would be for this course but I do have a copy of Beginners Book in Norse and Second Book in Norse by JA Holvik.  Though I would love to know how spoke norse compares to spoken modern icelandic as through ebay I also picked up that language course too.  Any thoughts or opinions would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Grace!

Gordon's Introduction to Old Norse has about 200 pages of grammar and a
glossary in it.  If that's not what you're after, have you thought about
getting a copy of Barnes' grammar?  It's called A New Introduction to Old
Norse, part 1 Grammar by Michael Barnes.  I've found it much more
user-friendly than Gordon's (unless, of course, you learnt Latin or
classical Greek at school in which case, Gordon's rather 'condensed'
approach would be no problem!)

The ISBN for Barnes' book is 0 903521 45 8 and last year it cost £5.00  Good
luck!

Sarah.
