Thanks, Sarah!  I think you've answered several of my questions already in replying to others.  I'm still trying to come up with a reasonable translation of bokki saell.  I'm not real happy with "lucky bucko".  Hott may be timid, but wouldn't you say there's a certain cheekiness to him?  The image I get is something like Don Knotts on the Andy Griffith show.  He's timid but he swaggers.  Okay,. maybe that's not how he's portrayed, but that's how I see him.
