Am I completely off if I'm guessing Haleyri to be Helsingör? Eyri is of course Ör as in Öresund - Eyrarsund.
I also saw on a map of Denmark that there are place with the "hal"-bit in it but that was in Jylland, round Fredrikshavn - and as "það var þá fjölmenni" (i don´t want to give away anything for those working hard on translations) is mentioned in the text it might suggest that it indeed is Helsingör as that area likely was "fjölmenn" even in the days of Egla gömlu. But still Jylland just as well might be fjölmennt.
 
And another question, maybe you´ve already answered this once, is Færeyinga saga fornmál eða miðmál?
