Hi,
I read the Jomsvikingsaga. Of course the whole account may be fictional,
but if I recall correctly, they had a sea-fort at "Jomsborg" which was
on the Baltic, East of Denmark. But the Jomsvikings themselves were
mostly Danish. They formed an independent group, maybe a little
bit like the Foreign Legion would have been, if it wasn't under France.

But the sagas also tell of Danes marrying Wendish princesses, and such things.
The language of the Wends must have been slavic. And Slavic is a language
very different from Germanic. For example when I listen to Russian
broadcasts, I can only understand the words of Latin origin that they
use. Though it is true that Slavic is Indo-european, I do not easily
understand Punjabi either, which is also said to be Indo-European.

Best regards
Keth
