Hello,
>why are you interested in Old Norse?
Well, pure intellectual hedonism really, and out of being interested in
languages generally.
A question for anyone with thoughts on the matter: Apart from the part of
the Volsung Saga where Sigurd tastes the blood of Fafnir's heart and can
suddenly understand the language of the birds, does a connection between
eating dragon-hearts and understanding birds occur anywhere else in Norse
(or other) literatures? I was struck by a parallel to this in the Life of
Apollonius of Tyana by Philostratus, where the exact same thing is
attributed to the Arabs (Life of Apollonius, book 1, chapter 20).
Kveja,
Graeme
