I agree with Mr. Radford that it was really sloppy of the
editors of ANF to print this nonsense by Motz. But unfortunately
such sloppiness is not uncommon these days among Old Norse
scholars, particularly in the USA, for the simple reason that
academic standards in this field have deteriorated drastically
during the last 50 years or so. Perhaps the editors simply couldn't
be bothered to correct Motz' errors any more - she was notoriously
inept at Old Norse linguistics, and I've heard she wasn't overfond
of having it pointed out to her.

I'm not a scholar, so I'm unfamliar with this publication being dicscussed. By the above, I take it the ANF is an American publication, with U.S. editors? So, I'm sure that since you feel so strongly about the errors made by Motz, that the editors have had the wisdom to publish your rebuttal of her work? Where might I find this? I find some things by Motz very hard to buy, but so too, much of the stuff coming from Icelands"scholars" I think some of the reason so much icelandic scholarship is not being translated may be due to the fact that it is worthless. You people seem to be able to read the lore, but not understand it. I guess you believe Jormundur's scholarship to be accurate since he is icelander? You spend an immense amount of time attacking a layman on the internet when your time could be so much better spent correcting the professional editors and authors of eddaic works. Then we could all know the correct meaning of the lore as you know it to be.
