Hello!

I've lost much data on my computer at home by what was at last own
silliness.

So far, so bad.

However, that made me think about how much I make myself depend
on the computer at home (e.g. that some important notes do/did
only exist on the computer), and how much time I invest into
the whole computer thing at home which I could also use differently,
be it for completing my study of CS, be it for human real world
contacts, or for many other things.

I will not be able to completely stop using computers at home,
of course, but I will probably want to restrict especially the
use of things which make me feel in debt (as in: I "have to" look
at all mails in some mailing list / all threads in a newsgroup at
least once, I "have to" answer this or that, just because it's
somewhat interesting, ...), and which take away much spontaneity
of how I use my time.

Therefore, I will:
- unsubscribe some mailing lists and newsgroups
- switch some others (yahoogroups!) to web only
- concentrate the use of the remaining mailing lists and newsgroups,
and that away from my home machine (mail address hannah@...).
- Use paper and pencil more often
- Do something about better backups :-)

Frankly, that perspective makes me feel to have won something good
even out of the bad thing (i.e. heavy data loss). Perhaps that was
some sign for me?!

So I'll go web only here, too. My learning activities are mostly
in the "real world" anyway, even though some things here were
very interesting. So have a good time.

With kind regards,

Hannah.
