There is is an effort underway to create a digitaly encoded text version
of Zoëga's _A Concise Dictionary of Old Icelandic_ which Sean Crist
scanned and provided online in the form of tiff images. I don't know
how far along the effort is. Here is a mailing list which you can

Please observe the current dictionary is nothing but images. The
objective of the project is to create a database with lookup
capabilities. There are already some files created by OCR (Optical
Character Recognition - for thoes of you who still speak human
languages) floating around somewhere. I am new to the project, and
there are currently four people on the Zoëga mailing list. I believe
what the project needs most is people who can proof the OCR results and
make corrections. I am not aware of any formal mechanism available for
doing this. It's a baby project, and it needs attention if it is to grow.

My personal opinion is that this is one of the most important projects
available for people interested in Teutonic heritage. Of course, a well
executed project may serve as a model for other languages and cultures.
I would like to see the other Germanic languages from OE to Yiddish
entered into a database that can cross reference the Proto-Germanic
Stems, etc. But that can wait till another day. First we need to get
Zoëga's Dictionary finished!
