James,
I just joined this list today to see what it is about and I can
possibly help you with the special characters without having a
different formatted keyboard. There is a neat program that comes
with windows. It has been there since at least windows 3.1 called
charmap.exe "Character Map". You may need to add it from the
windows cd and if you need help I can help you that way. First try
going to "Start" "Run" and then type charmap and then click "OK".
From there you can find out the ASCII code for the special
characters. þ can be typed by holding the Alt key and typing 0254
on the numberpad of your keyboard. To get ð just hold the Alt key
and type 0240. You can find out the Alt combo on the bottom of the
right corner of Character Map next to "Keystroke:" (Make sure
numlock is on) You can use these keystrokes without having
Character Map on your computer. The purpose of the program is just
to find out what the combinations are. You could always print out
or write down some for yourself to use as a cheat sheet.
I hope that this is helpful to any who were wondering about this.
I haven't checked out much of this list so I am not sure it is
something I am interested in but hopefully it will be.
