I agree that having an ON dictionary publicly available
on the web would be a great aid for undertakings such
as this course.

>What I was thinking is that each person could take a letter. Like one
>person do all the words beginning with "a" and another person do all
>the words beginning with "b" and so on.

Good idea. With enough people this would be a non-insane method.

>If we could get several people working on it like that, either typing it or

Those of us who know the language could, perhaps, best serve as final
proofreaders. We can spot errors much more easily than others (because
we only need to read the text, not to compare it with the original).

For an example here is the first chapter of Sir William's "Easy Readings
in Old Icelandic" which you have put up on your Miðnoetrsól website:

Gangleri hóf svá mál sitt: "Hverr er œztr eða elztr allra goða?" Hár segir:
"Sá heitir Allfáðr at váru máli, en í Ásgarði hinum forna átti hann tólf náfn.
" Þá spyrr Gangleri: "Hvar er sá guð? eða hvat má hann? eða hvat hefir hann
unnit framaverka?" Hár segir: "Lifir hann of allar aldir, ok stjórnar öllu
ríki
sínu, ok ræðr öllum hlutum, stórum ok smám." Þá mælti Jafnhár: "Hann
smíðaði himin ok jörð ok loptin ok all eign þeirra." Þá mælti Þriði: "Hitt
er mest, er hann gørði manninn ok gaf honum önd þá, er lifa skal ok aldri
týnask, þótt líkaminn fúni at moldu eða brenni at ösku; ok skulu allir menn
lifa, þeir er rétt eru siðaðir, ok vera með honum sjálfum, þar sem heitir
Gimli

I quickly spot those errors:

Allfáðr -> Alföðr
náfn -> nöfn
ok all eign -> ok alla eign

There also seem to be inconsistancies in the spelling, some forms are modern
others are old - but this may have been so in Craigie's original.

>I could convert the tiff's to .gif files so no one would have a
>problem viewing the graphics.

That would be great as I've still not managed to view the .tiff files.
