Hej folks,
The discussion of "Örvandill's sole-twig" being a star reminded me of a
discussion I saw, which is somewhat off-topic, but I remember either Haukur
or Óskar mentioning access to a dictionary of Icelandic etymology, and so I
was wondering if either might be able to answer a question:
what is the origin of "Lokabrenna" being the Icelandic word for
Sirius? it's mentioned in Grimm's _Teutonic Mythology_, but he makes no
indication of an Old Norse origin, but just as the modern name. I was
wondering if you knew how far that went back?
thanks,
-Selv
