I have archived the Cybalist group's messages, files and photos, and am
publishing the (filtered) archive to
http://www.wrdingham.co.uk/cybalist/ . As you may know, Yahoo (now
owned by Verizon) has declared that the messages and files will be
deleted on 14 December. This time, I had a downloading tool (PG
Offline 4) to help - I couldn't have done it in time by manual
downloading.
I have published all but about a dozen posts; they need some
more work for me to able to publish them. I have irretrievably mangled
all personal email addresses in the posts' published form. As the
mangling logic can mistake phonetic '@' as email punctuation, there
will be some republishing of posts as I apply more sophisticated logic
to the mangling. I may be able to fix some of the mojibake and even do
something about the massive link rot that has occurred over the twenty
years. Ironically, Latin-1 non-ASCII characters submitted as Latin-1
are not automatically recoverable.
I have restored half the files (folders A-K) so far. However, I will
not publish uploaded books where so doing may reasonably be expected to
deprive the copyright holder of income he would otherwise have
received. So far I have found that 3 files had no content - don't know
whether they ever had any.
