   One of my side interests is the debate between evolution and Creationism.  The debate does not exist within science, but is a result of vocal opposition based on religious and political beliefs.  As a result, Creationists attempt to introduce their ideas into the classroom without their having to go through the academic process whereby new ideas are vetted.

   The similarities with this discussion are striking.
