Of all the Germanic peoples of the Volkwanderung I wonder if the Suevi of Galicia are not the most neglected ones. I mean, Vandals and Alans passed to Africa in 429, but the Suevi stayed as an independent power in Galicia and Northern Portugal, in the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula, till 585. They issued coinage from the 5th century sometimes with the name of their kings (IUSSI RICHIARI REGES), and of the only three western European chronicles of the 5th century, one by the Galician bishop Hidatius deals mostly with the arrival of the Suevi and their rule till 470, while showing also the disintegration of Roman power. We also have the acts of two church councils of the 6th century, when they converted into Catholicism. From this same century we have the chronicles of the Visigoth John of Biclara, who briefly narrates the conquests of king Leovigild, including a few notices on the late Suevi kingdom; and the narrations by Gregory of Tours, who was well informed on Galicia. After their conquest by the Visigoths in 585 they were not banished or exterminated: in 589 the Visigoth king Reccared called them “most noble nation”, putting them in equality with the Goths.

So, yes, we have a certain number of names recorded in chronicles, acts, stone inscriptions, and coins till the 7th century. These names are akin to that of the Goths and Vandals (masculine names in â€"a(n), hypocoristic masculine names in â€"ila(n), -ka(n); ê remains like ê and not as â; many of these name also were used by Vandals/Goths/Burgundians/Gepids, etc.), so they were probably mostly of East Germanic extraction, although a few names like Pantardus and Heremigarius look rather Western:

Kings: Ermericus, Rechila/Richila, Rechiarius/Richiarius, Maldras, Framtan, Frumarius, Rechimundus, Remismundus, Veremundus, Ariamirus/Argemirus, Theodemirus/Theudomirus, Miro, Eboricus/Euricus, Audeca/Audica, Siseguntia f. (Queen)
Bishops and churchmen: Ildericus, Wittimer, Hildemirus, Adoricus, Anila, Argiovittus, Becilla, Gardingus, Neufila, Nitigisius, Pantardus, Remisol, Sunila
Other noblemen: Heremigarius, Aioulfus, Malaricus, Massilia

Cheers.
