As for the treatment of "thorny" clusters in Germanic, the evidence is
limited, but cf. *þexslo: 'adze' < *tetk^-tlah2. I'd expect something
like *h2r.tk^o- > PGmc. *urxsa- (hypothetical OE *<orhs ~ orx>). As Lat.
ursus is first attested in Quinctius Atta (a.f.a. I know), how about a
Proto-Germanic loan in Latin? ;)
