Luddite? No: that would mean that I had some philosophical
objection to learning it. I simply have more interest in
other branches of IE and in the discipline itself, and there
are only so many hours in a day. In any case, the idea that
someone who doesn't know Sanskrit can't know much about
historical linguistics is ridiculous on its face, and it
doesn't get much less ridiculous if you substitute
'historical IE linguistics' for 'historical linguistics'.
