I agree. The Latin text in which the word is mentioned has <piscis
vocatus le Shark> (1442), which might be naively interpreted as
suggesting a French connection, but the function of "le" in the
Latin/French/English system of the time was to signal a switch from
Latin to _any_ vernacular language, whether Romance or Germanic.
